Space is a luxury in Hong Kong. It is a reality of existence. You shut your eyes and your winter clothes will be in a contest with your suit-case to pack room. It is a little storage to rent in Hong Kong, thus it seems to be an easy way of solving the problem, yet is it working or again it is a bill to be paid at the end of the month? check this out for more information!
One of my friends has tried it when he had shifted to the flat with 300 square feet in Quarry bay. The first week he termed magic. Boxes were removed, the apartment was tidy and he could even see his floor. Nevertheless, after a couple of months, he made some interesting confessions that he never paid much attention to the unit. It was rather a burial place of material than a repository.
And it seems that that is a fashion. People hire them when their life situation is shifting; they change their residence, refurbish, downsize. First, it deals with a real life problem. Then it is their long-term stashing of what they do not actually need, but they are not willing to get rid of either.
However, not every one of them is remorseful.
One of the freelancers whom I interviewed maintains a mini storage facility where he stores camera equipments and props. This in her case does not necessarily imply having more space at home but rather an opportunity to bring work out of personal life. She perceives the unit as a continuation of her office. That is certainly true in a place where one can work at home and at the same time be in bed.
There are divisions of opinion on the aspect of cost.
Mini storage is not affordable in Hong Kong. Some users argue that it is worth the price because it is convenient and safe. Some of them believe that they have the monthly fee in your nose. The fact that one of the guys is even remaining in a more costly apartment than his old textbooks made him laugh.
Place is not as mundane as people think. Units located close to MTR stations or residential locations have greater chances to be used. One is likely to give up on something that becomes too hard to go. You are then paying to be in space that you do not even interact with.
Cleanliness and security are likely to obtain positive feedback. Most of the facilities are well maintained and CCTV and entry control. The latter section does not fail much. The bigger question is, does what you store in your storage pay?
And there is the minimal psychological effect. Some of the users indicated that a storage unit allows them to be less stressed because their home does not appear to be cluttered. Others say that it delays the decision. They fail to process through the things and merely push the matter aside.
It can be literally applicable to cases where you are the sort of a person who switches things, seasonal clothes, athletic gears, company inventories. When you are storing money away with the thought of using it in the case of necessity, it may turn into a leakage without any sound.
One of the users expressed it in a very pretty honest way; it is worth it when one is using it and not worth it when one is not using it.
It is an unforgettable line.
